Dr Gerald (Gerry) Nastasia, Jr. brings nearly 20 years of clinical practice experience to the California Chiropractic and Sports Medicine Center, at Dubai Healthcare City, working alongside Dr Charles Jones.  He holds active licences to practise in Dubai Healthcare City, California, Massachusetts, and Missouri.

Board certified by and a member of the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopaedists, he has undergone extensive postdoctoral training and examination, specialising in chiropractic orthopaedics – defined as the continued acquisition of knowledge relative to both normal functions, and diseases of the human body as they relate to the bones, joints, capsules, discs, muscles, ligaments, tendons, their complete neurological components, referred organ systems and contiguous tissues. 

He is proficiency rated in the Cox Technique.  Only 3% of all practising chiropractors have completed all required courses in the Cox Decompression Technique. It is an effective for most neck and low back pain.

Dr Gerry is certified in impairment ratings: determining the percentage by which a person’s injury affects their body as a whole.

Originally from just outside Boston, Massachusetts, he has spent most of his professional career in the USA and has also practised in Bermuda. He has worked in solo, group, multidisciplinary centres, and academic institutions.

In addition to his diverse patient care background, he has provided consultative opinions, independent medical evaluations and peer physician reviews for a number of US national and regional corporations and insurance companies, including the Massachusetts General Hospital’s Department of Occupational Health in Boston, Massachusetts.

In 2008, Dr Gerry accepted an appointment at Southern California University of Health Sciences in Whittier, California, where he was Assistant Professor in the Department of Diagnosis, with cross appointments to both the Department of Chiropractic Principles and Practice, and the Department of Chiropractic Procedures.  He also served as a supervising clinician in the University’s Student Health Center, was a member of the University’s Quality Assurance Team, Program Outcomes Committee, and Educational Outcomes Assessment Team.

Prior to this, Dr Gerry was appointed to the affiliate medical staff in the Department of Medicine at Boston Regional Medical Center in Massachusetts, and held an academic post as an instructor in Logan College of Chiropractic’s Department of Postdoctoral and Related Professional Education, and in its Student Intern Preceptor Program. 

From 2001 until late 2005, Dr Gerry served as the Director of Chiropractic and Rehabilitation for Alliance Medical Group, a multidisciplinary healthcare facility providing family medical, chiropractic, podiatric, physical therapy, massage therapy, and psychology services near Boston, Massachusetts.

In 1990 Dr Gerry graduated Cum Laude from Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri.

In April 2009, he received a “Best Instructor Award” from SCU’s Associated Student Body for his outstanding teaching style and dedication to his students. In July 2009, he was honoured by his colleagues when they elected him to represent them as a Senator in SCU’s Faculty Association.

                          Susana Ribeiro

                   Sports  Massage Therapist

Susana Ribeiro from Portugal has spent the last 15 years working as a sports therapist in her home country, working with the Portuguese Football Federation and the Lisbon Football Association.  She first looked after the women’s football team and then moving on to the men’s team.

She has dealt with all kinds of injuries on the field – from twisted ankles, broken bones – especially fingers – torn ligaments, providing onsite assistance and longer term recovery and rehabilitation.

Susana specialises in athletic massage and sports rehabilitation, physiotherapy, cinesiotherapy, thermaltherapy, lymphatic drainage, electrotherapy and thermotherapy.  Her techniques and deft touch are highly regarded among patients.

Susana was an athlete herself, playing basketball, football and kickboxing and has also coached children’s football team.

 Jon Abrego Sanz

Physiotherapist

Jon graduated from Ramon Llull University in Barcelona in 2001 with a Bachelors degree in Physiotherapy. He went on to do his Master of Sports Physiotherapy where he was taught and influenced by the members of the medical staff for the FC Barcelona football team, and the Spanish national associations for tennis and athletics.

Jon started working in 2001 as a Physiotherapist with the Barcelona Dragons American Football Team which were part of the NFL European League. Eager to build on his professional practice, Jon moved to France in 2002, where he continued his studies specializing in Manual Therapy in the Boris Dolto University in Paris. He continued living in Paris where he was a practicing Physiotherapist at the National Institute of Sports treating high profile sportsmen and Olympic Athletes.

Jon has worked as physiotherapist in a variety of professional sports clubs such as the AG2R La Mondiale Professional Cycling Team where he participated in different international races, one of which was the Tour de France 2004, 2005 and 2006. Jon has also worked with the UNFP French Professional Football Team during the 2007-2008 seasons.

During the last 2 years, Jon has worked as a freelance physiotherapist within different hospitals and private clinics in various regions of France such as Reunion Island, Corsica, the Alps, and Pyrenees and also in his native Basque Country.

Jon has a special interest in musculoskeletal disorders and believes in the” hands on therapy” as well as the importance of specific training for correcting muscle imbalances and preventing  re-injuries after full recovery. He works alongside Orthopedic Surgeons, Chiropractors and GP’s.

Jon is the referring Physio for the FC Barcelona football school in Dubai.

      Dr S. Shar Hashemi MD

Graduated from George Washington University in 1997, and George Washington University School of Medicine in 2002.

 He served as a United States Patent and Trademark Office Biotechnology Patent examiner, then completed seven years of additional training including five years of general surgery training in New York and one year of research at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institute’s of Health.

He completed a Hand Surgery Fellowship at the University of Minnesota Combined program. In 2009-2010 he will be the Peripheral Nerve Fellow at the Dellon Institute in Baltimore.

His clinical interests include peripheral nerve compression syndromes and hand/upper extremity disorders particularly fractures, ligament injuries, trauma, and microsurgical reconstruction.
